Bring Your Drawings to Life - One Layer at a Time
If your fur keeps coming out flat, patchy, or overworked… you’re not alone.
Most artists aren’t missing talent - they’re missing a clear, repeatable process.
In this workshop, I’ll walk you through exactly how I build realistic fur from the ground up - so you can stop guessing and start seeing results.
What You’ll Learn
✨ Build layered fur with real depth and dimension
So your drawings stop looking flat and start feeling alive
✨ Map stroke direction to match anatomy
So your fur flows naturally instead of looking random or “scribbled on”
✨ Create realistic texture without drawing every single hair
So you can work smarter, not slower - and still get hyper-real results
✨ Use color layering instead of heavy pressure
So your work stays clean, vibrant, and blendable (no more waxy buildup)
✨ Control edges - when to soften, when to sharpen
So your fur looks natural instead of stiff or overly outlined
✨ Fix patchy areas and unify your piece
So everything feels cohesive instead of blotchy or uneven
✨ Know exactly when to stop adding detail
So you don’t accidentally ruin a strong piece at the finish line
✨ Follow a repeatable, start-to-finish workflow
So you’re not reinventing the wheel every time you draw
✨ Watch the full process in real time
So you can see exactly how each layer builds on the last
✨ Learn how to recover from mistakes mid-piece
So one wrong move doesn’t derail your entire drawing
✨ Use a “vibe-first” blocking approach (my personal method)
So you capture life and movement before getting lost in detail
This Workshop Is For You If…
You’ve ever thought: “Why does my fur look flat?”
You get stuck somewhere between sketch and finished piece
You overwork your drawings trying to “fix” them
You want your work to look more alive, not just more detailed
And By the End…
You’ll have a clear, repeatable process for rendering realistic fur - one you can apply to any animal, in any future piece.
No more guessing. No more muddy layers.
Just clean, confident, intentional work.
Notes and Reminders
Included in your welcome pack email for the class will be:
A PDF with high resolution versions of both our reference image and our linework, as well as a correctly sized version so that all you have to do is print out the page and clip out your linework! Included in your welcome PDF is a list of the pencils and surface that we will be using for this project. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE EXACT MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THIS PROJECT, DO NOT PANIC! You can absolutely "use what you have on hand" and not worry about buying anything at all new for this project, and still come away learning more than you would expect!
